2 fire trucks, van crash in East New York
Two fire trucks and a van collided in East New York Saturday morning, sending 13 people to the hospital.
Witnesses say one of the fire trucks was traveling on Hegeman Avenue, while another was going down Ashford Street when they crashed into each other shortly before 9:45 a.m.
One of the FDNY vehicles uprooted a stop sign before careening into a tree and flipping over. Then, a van going down Hegeman Avenue crashed into the overturned truck.
Authorities say four people were seriously hurt and eight others sustained minor injuries. One firefighter was stuck in the overturned truck for two and a half hours before being rescued.
