Police are searching for a man they say tried to rape a teenage girl in Canarsie.

According to authorities, a man armed with a knife and firearm tried to sexually assault a 14-year-old girl Monday. Neighborhood residents say the news is frightening, especially because the alleged attack took place in the afternoon.

Police say the 14-year-old was able to escape uninjured from her attacker.
