About 20 families homeless after 3rd Avenue fire
About 20 families are homeless after a four-alarm fire tore through a Third Avenue building Wednesday night.
According to officials, it took more than 100 firefighters over three hours to contain the flames that destroyed a four-story apartment building and a neighborhood deli. A next-door building and a beauty salon sustained water damage and had to be evacuated.
Officials say nine people suffered minor injuries in the blaze. Authorities say most of the victims are firefighters.
The Red Cross is providing assistance to those whose homes were damaged by the fire.
