Man hit, killed at Bay Ridge Parkway bus stop
Police say a 65-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Tuesday night at the intersection of Bay Ridge Parkway and 18th Avenue.
According to authorities, a 16-year-old driver smashed into a Toyota trying to make a left turn across Bay Ridge Parkway. The teen, who was driving a Mazda, allegedly crashed into the turning car and then hit a bus stop, striking and killing Stanislaw Zak.
Ahmed, who chose to withhold his last name, who works at a nearby deli, saw the crash and immediately called 911. Ahmed says the Mazda flipped several times and landed five or six houses away from the bus stop. Police say the teen was taken to Lutheran Hospital and is expected to be fine.
The driver of the Toyota was uninjured in the crash. According to published reports, the 16-year-old was driving with only a Learner's Permit. Police say the teen has been charged with manslaughter and reckless endangerment.
