Shop owners: New buses will take up parking
Brooklyn residents may soon see new buses in their borough as part of the Bus Rapid Transit system, which may make transportation around Brooklyn easier.
The new system, which would run down Nostrand Avenue, includes larger, more comfortable buses, according to officials. The buses would also help reduce travel time by allowing riders to pay before boarding. Officials say the system is more reliable and keeps to a stricter time schedule than MTA buses.
The BRT system is already used in other parts of the city, but some Brooklyn residents say the new buses are not welcomed in their neighborhood. The larger buses do take up more parking spaces on the side of the road, and business owners say they will prevent customers from parking.
A community meeting will be held Wednesday at Brooklyn College at 6 p.m. to discuss instituting the new transportation system.
