Fire destroys vacant home in Brighton Beach
Officials say a massive early morning fire destroyed a vacant Brighton Beach home Monday.
Fire officials say this is the second blaze to hit Ocean View Avenue in one week. Last Thursday, a fire destroyed a home on the corner. Barbara Williams, who lives next door to the vacant home that caught fire, says her house sustained some damage.
The owner of the homes says the properties are for sale and despite efforts to board up the fire-ravaged homes, squatters frequently get inside. Neighbors say squatters most likely set the fire, thought it is unclear if it was accidental.
At least five firefighters were sent to the hospital with minor injuries, officials say.
