Authorities say a former Administration for Children's Services employee was arrested Wednesday for failing to make required home visits and faking paperwork.

According to police, Stephanie Sabouni ignored children in need by neglecting to visit the homes of her assigned cases while working at ACS from 2005 to 2007. Officers say Sabouni is charged with tampering public records, offering a false instrument for filing and official misconduct.

Sabouni allegedly made false entries in the ACS computer system, which claimed she visited families she never met. Sabouni's mother says her daughter is innocent. Her defense lawyer told News 12 Brooklyn Sabouni lost her teaching job after she was arrested.

Sabouni was released on $1,500 bail. A judge says Sabouni will have to surrender her passport.

According to state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, faking official computer records is a serious crime, especially since Sabouni's actions could involve the welfare of children.
