NYCHA to receive millions for renovations
The New York City Housing Authority will receive millions in federal stimulus aid for needed repairs to many of its buildings.
In Brooklyn, the majority of that money will be for the Whitman and Ingersoll Houses in Fort Greene, which were built in 1944 and house hundreds of people.
"I think it's great because these buildings are old and they have been neglected for years and years and years so the sooner they do it the better," says Fort Greene resident David Twyne.
The Whitman and Ingersoll Houses will receive a total of $423 million. Improvements include renovations to elevators, roof tops and kitchens. Plumbing, electrical work and painting will also be upgraded.
