1 killed, 1 injured in Belt Parkway crash

Police say a driver lost control of his BMW Friday night on the Belt Parkway, killing a woman and seriously injuring a man.

Authorities say the driver hit a pole while traveling on the Belt Parkway near Fourth Avenue. The car burst into flames upon impact. Police say a 34-year-old woman, who was riding in the passenger seat, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Police say EMS workers pulled the driver away from the car and rushed him to Lutheran Medical Center in critical condition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
