Many say construction on 5th Avenue through Sunset Park is overdue, but some shop owners are worried the construction will impair their business.
The Department of Design and Construction plans to start work between 24th and 34th streets next week. The city says it will take 18 months to fix sewers, curbs and water mains.
The city then plans to move onto streets in the Sunset Park Business Improvement District. Shop owners there say they are concerned.
"I'd be very concerned,? Allen Ellenberg, owner of Jason?s Ladies Wear, says. ?The timing of doing that would be extremely important to plan properly."
However, those with the Sunset Park BID and Community Board 7 say the construction will only improve the area in the long run.
