Waterfalls on their way to Brooklyn

A public art exhibit will give Brooklyn residents the chance to see waterfalls in their borough.
Construction is under way on scaffolding that will create the illusion of waterfalls along the Brooklyn shoreline. Once complete, some will reach 120 feet in height. Artist Olauf Eliasson says thousands of gallons of water will cascade down the scaffolding, creating a waterfall.
The exhibit is supported by the Public Art Fund and will cost $15 million.
Four waterfalls will be constructed along the East River and Buttermilk Channel. Two are being built in Brooklyn - one under the Brooklyn Bridge and another between piers four and five.
"Waterfalls haven't really been built before. It's a true design build," says Tom Hoban of Tishman Construction. "But we've partnered with a lot of representatives, smart people and contractors and engineers in the industry and we've been collaborating for two years now and it's finally come [to] fruition."
City officials say residents will be able to enjoy the waterfalls by foot, bike and boat starting in July.
