Deal reached to phase out 2 failing Brooklyn schools
Two Brooklyn high schools will close under a new agreement reached between state education officials and educators.
The New York State Education Department said the plan will allow for the phasing out of Canarsie High School and Franklin K. Lane High School. Fifteen schools were also added to the Schools Under Registration Review list. English and math assessments of fourth- and fifth-graders determine which elementary schools are placed on the needs-improvement list. High schools are evaluated based on how many students meet graduation requirements.Clinton Hill's J.H.S. 265 was recently taken off the list.
