Prosecutors pulled out the tools Cesar Rodriguez allegedly used to torture his stepdaughter, Nixzmary Brown, in court Thursday.

Rodriguez, 29, faces 25 years to life for the murder of the 7-year-old girl. He allegedly killed Brown with a blow to the head for stealing yogurt to eat.

A small chair fitted with nylon rope, a litter box and duct tape were presented in court. The prosecution alleges Rodriguez used the objects to discipline the girl.

Testimony was also given by the police officer who found Brown's body. Officer Erick Nolan told the jury he found a "very thin, emaciated" child lifeless in the apartment. Rodriguez tried to appear like he was attempting to revive the child despite her obvious death, according to Nolan.

Defense attorneys for Rodriguez admit the man beat the little girl in response to bad behavior, but allege Brown's mother, Nixzaliz Santiago, is responsible for the hit that killed the child.

A murder trial for Santiago will take place later this year.
