Mom wants Fla. return of Stepha Henry slaying suspect
The family of a missing John Jay College graduate called Wednesday for the Brooklyn woman's suspected killer to be extradited to Florida.
Stepha Henry's mother, Sylvia Henry, and her father joined Councilman Charles Barron in front of their Alabama Avenue home to respond to the capture of Kendrick Williams, 32. Henry said she stills holds out hope that her daughter is alive.
New York and Miami-Dade authorities arrested Williams Tuesday at Canarsie Pier as he slept in his car. Williams said during a Manhattan Criminal Court hearing Tuesday that he will fight extradition to Florida. A judge set a Feb. 15 hearing date on the issue.
Williams faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Henry, 22. She was last seen May 29, 2007 getting into a vehicle driven by a man in Florida. Henry was visiting relatives at the time. Her body has not been found, but Florida authorities say her blood was found in a car driven by Williams.
Sylvia Henry is calling for his return to Florida as soon as possible so he can be tried in the case.
