Man killed in East New York drug probe wanted by FBI
Authorities say a man killed by narcotics officers Tuesday in East New York was on the FBI's "most wanted" list for the attempted murder of a police officer in Georgia.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne says the suspect, Darin John Richardson, was wanted in connection with the Aug. 20, 2005 shooting of an officer in Cobb County, Ga.
Browne says Richardson pointed a gun at the Brooklyn narcotics officers while they were conducting a drug investigation near 970 Belmont Ave. Officials believe the weapon may also have been used in the Georgia incident.
According to Browne, the gun was reported stolen from an acquaintance of Richardson on the same day the Georgia police officer was shot. The weapon was recovered at the Brooklyn scene.
Three officers were treated for trauma in the Tuesday night shooting. Richardson was pronounced dead at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center.
AP wire reports contributed to this story.
