Brighton Beach building boom changes landscape
A construction boom has some Brighton Beach residents worried about being forced out of their homes.
Since the 1990s, developers have been buying up property in the residential neighborhood and building concrete apartment buildings. Homeowners and longtime renters say they fear the landscape is changing too quickly.
Residents like Anna Daratany, who live on a fixed income, say they are worried about being priced out of their homes and onto the street.
Some community members blame plans to revitalize nearby Coney Island for the increased development in Brighton Beach.
Community Board 13 is working to address residents' concerns.
