Worker discovers dead fetus in hospital's laundry
A dead fetus wrapped in blankets was discovered in SUNY Downstate Medical Center?s laundry on Wednesday.
The hospital?s laundry is sent daily to Freeport, Long Island where is it sorted and cleaned at Oceanside Institutional Industries. On Wednesday, while sorting through the hospital?s laundry, a worker discovered a male fetus wrapped up in blankets.
The medical examiner determined the fetus was from a pregnancy in its 17th to 20th week and couldn't survive outside the womb. The fetus died one or two days before it was discovered, the medical examiner estimated.
SUNY Downstate said they are cooperating with police on the matter.
Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward or call Nassau County police at 1-800-244-TIPS.
