Reward offered for info in slaying of teen
Local leaders are offering a cash reward for information about the shooting of a 14-year-old.
Jamal "Sonny" Carter was gunned down Tuesday in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Police are still seeking clues to find the person or people responsible for Carter's murder.
State Senator Eric Adams and the group One Hundred Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care are offering $3,000 for tips leading to the arrest of Carter's killer.
"The entire system played a role in this 14-year-old being assassinated," says Adams.
Despite the money being offered, authorities say they haven't received many tips. Residents believe a "street code of silence" will remain strong despite the victim's young age.
"That's the code of the streets - don't snitch," says longtime resident Gerald Miller. "Ain't nobody want to be labeled a snitch."
