Students demand traffic light after girl struck
Students at a Bay Ridge school are demanding the city make the area safer after a driver hit a student last month, throwing her several feet.
Fontbonne Hall Academy students say getting to school is dangerous because the building is on a stretch of Shore Road with no traffic lights or stop signs. They also complain drivers speed and double park.
Community Board 10 has joined the fight with the school to ask the Department of Transportation to act.
The DOT says it is studying traffic patterns near Shore Road and 99th Street and will determine by December whether a light or stop sign needs to be installed.
The girl who was hit only suffered bruises.
