Victory Memorial Hospital in Brooklyn will soon be awarded a hefty check from the state to improve its services for patients.

The hospital is one of 23 New York hospitals that will receive part of $550 million grant. The funds will assist the facilities in complying with the Commission of Health Facilities in the 21st Century. The commission?s review resulted in the closure of many hospitals. Victory Memorial Hospital was one of the facilities recommended for closure.

The commission also promotes outpatient health care and will aid hospitals in debt. The funds will also retrain displaced employees and promote community-oriented long-term care services.
