Critics say Brooklyn trolley wastes money
Critics of the Heart of Brooklyn trolley say the service is wasting money and should not receive more public funding to expand an already disappointing system.
The Center for an Urban Future says that Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz shouldn?t allocate more money to the trolley system. The group says tourists aren?t using the trolley to explore and spend money at Brooklyn cultural spots as had been hoped.
Critics of the service say residents are simply jumping on to get a free ride around town.
Heart of Brooklyn officials believe the problem isn?t that residents are using the system, but rather that tourists are not aware of the trolley. The organization hopes to expand the service to pick up tourists at the Brooklyn Bridge and take them into the borough.
The Heart of Brooklyn trolley goes through and around Prospect Park, making stops at notable spots like the Brooklyn Museum and the Botanical Gardens.
