Health Dept.: HIV infections in gay men are on the rise

A new report claims that HIV infections in homosexual men in Brooklyn and the rest of the city are on the rise.The report by the Department of Health says the number of homosexual men between the ages of 13 and 29 diagnosed with HIV shot up 33 percent over the last six years. Among homosexual men between 13 and 19, the department claims the number of infections almost doubled.According to the report, black men were diagnosed with HIV twice as often as white men. Hispanic men were diagnosed with HIV 55 percent more often than white men. The report also claims that 90 percent of homosexual teens diagnosed with HIV in 2006 were black or Hispanic.Health officials stress that teens should be sleeping with less partners and should also use protection.
