A group of Coney Island residents say they?ve put up with poor security and abysmal maintenance for decades, and they?re calling on local officials for help.
Maybel James has lived in the Sea Rise apartments for 15 years and says a leaky ceiling and crumbling walls have been only some of the problems she?s had to face.
Tenants of the 700-unit complex, which is part of the federally subsidized Mitchell-Lama Housing Program, say security is lacking as well. Residents say there are only four armed guards, and it?s not enough.
Tenants called on elected officials to step in. The lawmakers plan to sit down with Grenadier Management Company and hope their involvement will bring change.
However, tenants say they doubt anything will change. The elected officials also say they will appeal to the state division of housing.
