Indictments handed down in fatal shooting of BK cop
Indictments were handed down to three men Wednesday in the shooting death of an NYPD officer.
Dexter Bostic, Robert Ellis and Lee Woods have been formally indicted on 21 charges including first-degree murder, aggravated murder and aggravated assault. The three men face life without parole if convicted.
The three suspects are charged with an attack that took the life of 23-year-old Russel Timoshenko. The police officer was gunned down during a traffic stop on the corner of Lefferts and Rogers avenues earlier this month. His partner, Officer Herman Yan, was also shot in the incident. Yan survived the shooting, thanks in part to his bulletproof vest. Timoshenko, who suffered severe head injuries, died days after the shooting.
The three suspects had been arraigned last week on charges of attempted murder. However, those charges were upgraded following Timoshenko?s death.
NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly addressed the press and revealed details of the shooting, including the presentation of surveillance video of the incident.
