Giglio Feast brings tastes and sights of Italy to BK
Thousands of local residents turned out for the annual Giglio Feast in Williamsburg Sunday.
Residents bear the heat every July to enjoy the sights and sounds of the festival, which celebrates the return of Saint Paulinus to Nola, Italy. Patrons enjoyed traditional Italian food and games.
During the ceremony, participants hoist up a 65-foot statue of Saint Paulinus and carry it through the street to symbolize the saint?s return to Nola.
The feast has been a Brooklyn tradition since 1903. Organizers said there are three main holidays in the community: Christmas, Easter and the Giglio Feast.
