A Bronx woman cooked up a new business with a little help from the city's Housing Authority.

Bad Gurls Burgers owner Jet Toomer took advantage of NYCHA's Food Business Pathways Program, aimed at helping NYCHA residents and Section 8 tenants become entrepreneurs.

"It provided these resources for someone like me, who had no real understanding of how the food business and industry worked on the most fundamental level," Toomer says. "Like licensing and starting my business entity."

But that's not to say she didn't have some recipes in mind. Her signature "Bad Gurl" burger uses premium angus beef topped in baked macaroni and cheese. On the other hand, the "Good Gurl" is a portabella mushroom stuffed with spinach and garlic on a gluten-free bun.
