Con Edison says that it reached a new electric peak for the year at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.
The company says it's trying to remain reliable, despite a union contract dispute that has kept 8,500 employees off the job for more than two weeks.
About 5,000 managers have stepped up to take over their work.
