Parkchester residents urge slowdown after crash
Parkchester residents are calling on drivers to hit the brakes after two people were injured in a car crash on Archer Street last night. Witnesses say a Dodge Challenger traveling southbound on White Plains Road hit a cab and pushed it back about 50 feet. Both drivers were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where police say one victim is in stable condition. The other suffered minor injuries. Neighbors say a pedestrian was fatally struck by a motorcyclist in the same area back in 2008, and that a woman was also hit by a car in 2009. Residents say they are now asking the city to install red-light cameras to prevent future crashes. Officials with the Department of Transportation say they will work to address community concerns, but have not received any specific speeding complaints.
