Mixed reactions to new City Island Bridge design, cost

The city's Office of Management and Budget has approved a nearly $150 million budget for the replacement of the City Island Bridge.
However, federal funding for the project has not been sitting well with some members of The Bronx community. Many residents are not happy with the cost and design of the bridge, and some locals are upset because they have no say in the decision process. The Department of Transportation says that the design of the new bridge has been revised through a community outreach project and will limit the issue of boat traffic passing under the bridge. The new span will be built where the existing City Island Bridge now sits over Eastchester Bay. A temporary bridge will be constructed next to the current bridge from Pelham Bay Park to City Island Avenue. Construction is set to begin in February 2013 and will be completed by 2016.
