Melrose apartment building in the dark after basement fire
Residents in a Melrose apartment building are waiting in the dark and the cold for their power, gas and water to be restored after a fire in the basement yesterday.
Residents at 828 Courtland Ave. say they were allowed to return to their apartments following the fire, but they spent the night without any utilities. They also say they're concerned that the management company, New York Management Company, isn't doing enough to help them.
The management company says that it is working with an electrician to restore power and that other utilities were shut off as a precaution. It also says it gave each resident a flashlight and $20 for food and that it is working on finding new homes for residents while repairs are made.
