BX lawmaker seeks safe home for Pelham Parkway horse
A Bronx lawmaker is leading a campaign to save a horse named Rusty from what animal rights activists call dangerous living conditions.Rusty lives in an abandoned Pelham Parkway stable that has been condemned as unsafe. The city's vacate order, however, only applies to humans, and the property's landlord has refused offers to find the horse a proper home. The city is auctioning the neglected property in the next few weeks, and Sen. Jeff Klein (D-N.Y.) is sounding the alarm in hopes of finding Rusty a safe home.Klein and Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal (D-67th District) are proposing a law that would allow animal protection to intervene in situations like this. Meanwhile, an animal rights rally is planned for next Thursday outside the Pelham Parkway stables.
