America commemorates 9/11 on 11th anniversary
It's a day of remembrance in The Bronx, throughout the city and across the world for the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11.
Family members of victims gathered at Memorial Plaza in lower Manhattan to read aloud the names of all 2,753 people who lost their lives that day. The readings were interspersed with moments of silence to observe the times two planes struck the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and for Flight 93's crash in Pennsylvania.
President Barack Obama appeared at the Pentagon and said that every victim lost has made America stronger. Members of Congress also put aside partisan politics to mark the day, while Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that a budget battle over a national Sept. 11 memorial museum has been resolved.
