Sandy shuts down major NYC bridges

Most city bridges have been closed as Sandy bears down on The Bronx.

Major bridges have been shut down due to wind, including the Whitestone, Throgs Neck, George Washington, Henry Hudson, and Triborough bridges.

Public schools and Catholic schools will remain closed Tuesday.

According to Con Edison's website, more than 42,000 Bronx customers were without power as of 2 a.m. The utility says it has cut power to customers in Lower Manhattan to lessen damage from flooding, but it has no plans to cut power in The Bronx.

If you lose power at any point during the storm, Con Edison customers should report the outage by calling 1-800-75-ConEd.

You can also keep track of the news without power by dialing in to listen to the News 12 broadcast at 646-273-1212.
