Report: 90% of students in 5 BX neighborhoods not ready for college

Only 10 percent of high school graduates in a large portion of The Bronx were prepared for college-level work in 2011, according to a new report.

The Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University says that 90 percent of students in five neighborhoods, including Morrisania, Longwood and Mott Haven, were not ready for higher education.

Officials say the students in those neighborhoods are primarily black and Latino.

The same study also found that between 65 and 79 percent of students in Manhattan neighborhoods were ready for college work.
