Animal attacks in Pelham Bay Park outrage activistsPosted: Updated:
An animal attack in Pelham Bay Park has local activists outraged.
Park rangers and maintenance workers say they have seen gulls, geese and squirrels being used as target practice over the past few weeks. Two birds have been found dead, two others were rescued but later euthanized because of their injuries. Pictures by park advocates reveal a goose shot in the neck with a dart.
Hunting animals in the park is a felony punishable by up to two years in prison.
The Parks Department says that it is giving extra attention to Pelham Bay Park by using Urban Park Rangers.
