Audit: NYCHA repairs handling is unacceptable
An audit of New York City Housing Authority's maintenance and repairs has revealed incomplete jobs and other troubling practices.
City Comptroller Scott Stringer ordered the audit, which found that in some cases, NYCHA closed work orders without the work actually being completed. Stringer says the handling of repairs is unacceptable.
The audit also uncovered underreported data on its maintenance backlog and inadequate training for employees on how to deal with mold and mildew.
The report examined NYCHA's maintenance and repairs from January 2013 through July 2014.
The city's public housing authority admitted that there are challenges with its maintenance and repairs, but calls the report incorrect. It says that new measures have since been put into place and two upper-management officials were hired to help facilitate improvements.
