Tax-filing deadline is Tuesday night

News 12's Katie Lusso has some last-minute tips for deadline filers.
Many people pay local accountants to file their taxes. Others do it themselves, and experts say it's better to file on time and end up owing than to not file at all.
According to experts, proofreading everything and checking your math could help make sure your return is accurate.
They also recommend making sure bank and Social Security numbers are correct. Also, experts say don't forget to sign and date all IRS forms. 
Filing electronically and using tax software is the preferred method, especially for those filing today. 
Experts say if you wish to get your return faster, select a direct deposit option. 
New York state tax call centers have extended hours today from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
