Cherry blossoms arrive at Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Cherry blossoms have arrived at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Flowering cherries bloom at the garden from late March or early April through mid-May.
Temperature, rain and other factors determine the timing of the blooms as well as how long they will last.
The garden's staff says there are a few weeks left to soak in the stunning sights of the garden.
"Each tree is about a week for its bloom, but we've got so many different varieties of trees that the entire cherry blossom season at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is about five weeks or so," says Elizabeth Reina-Longoria. "The bulk of our collection is just starting to reach peak bloom. Probably in the next few days it's going to be right there."
Tens of thousands of visitors are expected at the garden for the traditional Japanese Sakura Matsuri Festival to celebrate Japanese culture.
