Police search for suspects in Midwood synagogue robbery

A Midwood synagogue was robbed by two suspects early Sunday morning, police say.

Police say two men broke into the residence on top of the Avenue J synagogue and assaulted the 53-year-old caretaker around 5 a.m.. Officials say the suspects stole several items from the caretaker and then forced him to open up the synagogue, where they stole items from the synagogue as well.

According to police, the two men used a metal object to hit the caretaker in the face and head. They say the suspects stole his cellphone, laptop and $300.

The man was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and was later released.

Councilmember David Greenfield is posting a $1,000 reward to help speed up the process in finding the people responsible for the incident.
