Breast cancer survivor on mission to encourage fitness

A Canarsie woman who battled breast cancer is making it her mission to encourage others to get fit.

Cynthia Jean credits working out and eating healthy for helping her recover from breast cancer. She was diagnosed with the disease after finding a lump in her breast at age 33 in 2014.

Now, living cancer-free, Jean wants to teach others what she learned during her treatment about eating healthy and exercise.

She invited a trainer to an event in East Flatbush Saturday to get people off their feet and also hosted a healthy cooking demonstration.

Jean says she wants to host similar events in the future to encourage people to get cancer screenings and live a healthier lifestyle.
