71-year-old man struck and killed in Dyker Heights

A 71-year-old New Jersey man was struck and killed at 84th Street and 13th Avenue Wednesday, shortly after neighbors say he had just signed the paperwork on his new home in Brooklyn.

Police sources say he was hit while crossing the street to get to his parked car. They say the impact threw him into another vehicle before he hit the ground.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Witnesses say they watched in horror as the scene unfolded in front of them.

"Very bad," says one local resident who gave his name as Mohammed. "A lot of people tried to help him. We could do nothing."

Investigators say the driver remained at the scene. It was not immediately clear whether he would face any charges.
