80 Flatbush high-rise project to bring schools, apartments

A new high-rise project aims to bring new schools and hundreds of apartments to Downtown Brooklyn.

The massive complex at 80 Flatbush Ave. includes two new schools for 700 students and provides thousands of square feet of affordable housing, retail and office space.

It will feature two large towers, which will occupy 61,000 square feet between Flatbush Avenue, Schermerhorn Street, Third Avenue and State Street.

The developer Alloy announced the mixed-use project Monday. It says it is planning to build 900 apartments, 200 of which will be affordable units.

Two existing 19th century buildings on the worksite will also be getting a facelift.

Construction on 80 Flatbush Ave. is expected to start in 2019. Alloy plans to finish phase one, which includes the schools and one of the towers, by 2022. The second tower is projected to be complete three years later.
