Work slated to begin on $72M subway modernization project

A $72 million project to modernize three R train subway stations in Brooklyn has begun. 



Renovations will start Monday first at the at the 53rd Street station, according to officials.



The Bay Ridge Avenue station will close on April 29, and the Prospect Avenue station will be closed beginning June 5. 



The stations will remain closed for six months.



MTA officials say clear signage, service announcements, new maps and better lighting are all part of the renovations.
