Mini horses stir up spirits at nursing home
Dozens of senior citizens at an East New York nursing home received a therapeutic visit from miniature horses Wednesday.
The horses -- Aidan and Pearl -- are each 3 feet tall. They are part of a pet therapy program that Bushwick Center staff members say helps lift residents' spirits during regular visits to the facility.
"Some residents don't have families that come and visit, so this is an opportunity for them to socialize with their peers," says Lydia Thomas-Cummings.
Residents deal with a range of issues from dementia to dialysis.
Angel McNair says the horses help mitigate physical pain.
"It takes my mind off the poor circulation and the pain that I will have," McNair says.
