Police say the majority of the 37 people arrested are known Bloods gang members with long criminal histories. Some of them have been arrested in the past on charges of attempted murder and murder.

In addition to the arrests, police recovered more than 17 firearms and seized more than 2 kilograms each of cocaine, heroin and fentanyl, as well as large amounts of cash.

A number of the arrests were made at the Albany Houses in Crown Heights, but others were from across the city and in a few other states.

The narcotics and conspiracy investigation known as Operation Hardball began in November 2015. Police say the focus of it surrounded high-level Bloods gang members who were running a narcotics distribution operation.
