Shoppers seek out open businesses after storm

After a morning full of wintry mix and cold temperatures, lots of people turned out to shop in Brighton Beach at the few businesses that remained open.

Palace Fried Chicken was open all day, offering warm meals to hungry, cold visitors.

Many shoppers told News 12 they wanted to get out of the house -- until the messy weather took hold of them.

"My feet were getting kind of cold here, with the slush," said William Simonetti, a Brighton Beach resident. "So I decide to come in here. I had a pizza and a coffee, and I'm just sitting down to relax before I go out and home again."

For anyone who wishes to travel, the roads remain slippery, and ice is expected overnight.
