AAA gives drivers safety tips to best handle snowstorm
For those intent on driving during Tuesday's snowstorm, being prepared is key.
Robert Sinclair, of AAA, spoke with News 12 about essential safety measures all drivers should take during a winter storm.
Sinclair said items that all drivers should have ready are a shovel, an ice scraper or brush, an emergency kit, a blanket, and tools like a screwdriver or pliers. But the most important thing to have is a charged cellphone to call for help.
AAA has a list of important list of dos and don'ts to follow during a snowstorm.
Drivers should clean their windshields and make sure fluids are winter-ready mixes, clean all windows and mirrors before driving, know their brakes and increase their following distance.
Drivers shouldn't drive fast, make any sudden turns, or go out unless absolutely necessary, according to the list.
Another thing that AAA said is important to do is to clear all the snow off of the top of the car to avoid having it fly off and cause an accident.
