DSNY prepares as blizzard approaches Brooklyn

The Department of Sanitation geared up Monday in preparation of a snowstorm set to drop a foot of snow or more in Brooklyn.

Officials said they would first deploy salt spreaders to pretreat the roads. More than 600 salt spreaders are available to go out across the city, each capable of carrying 16 tons of salt.

Officials say after 2 inches of snow have fallen, plows will be deployed to clear the roads.

Tuesday's blizzard is expected to start impacting the region after midnight, and could last into the evening hours of Tuesday.

News 12 meteorologists say the major snowstorm could drop 12-18 inches of snow, with the heaviest of snow wrapping up by 3 p.m.
