Brooklyn residents brace for snowstorm

Brooklyn residents and city workers were out Sunday preparing for the impending snowstorm.

News 12 spoke with residents heading to grocery stores to pick up food and other essentials like extra flashlights and batteries.

They say it is always a good idea to be prepared in case they get snowed in.

The New York City Department of Sanitation is issuing a snow alert for Monday night.

The department says the snow alert allows crews to start prepping for snow by loading salt spreaders, attaching plows and notifying other New York City agencies so everyone is ready once the snow hits.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo encourages all New Yorkers to plan ahead, and avoid unnecessary travel as the storm progresses.
