City touts local businesses for Nat’l Small Business Week
The city Department of Small Business Services is promoting local entrepreneurs to mark National Small Business Week.
"You know your local cleaners, you know your local coffee shop and they know you," says Gregg Bishop, the department's commissioner. "And certainly provide better service than the chains...We want to make sure that we can help those local businesses compete."
The city's Love your Local campaign allows residents to nominate businesses online for the chance to with $90,000.
The owner of Putnam's Pub and Cooker in Clinton Hill says that kind of money would be a major boost.
The city has also created an online map that shows viewers where independently owned stores are located throughout New York.
